Koury Engages with Activists and Civil Society Representatives in Benghazi

Benghazi: Acting Head of the UNSMIL, Stephanie Koury, met with 14 activists and representatives from civil society organizations across the east and south at the UN headquarters in Benghazi. During the meeting, Koury shared the UNSMIL’s assessment of the political, security, and economic landscape that prompted the mission to revive the political process.

According to Libyan News Agency, Koury assured the participants of UNSMIL’s commitment to an inclusive approach, ensuring that all Libyan voices are heard. She urged them to actively engage in discussions aimed at shaping the nation’s future. The young women and men present shared assessments of the factors perpetuating the status quo and proposed options for moving forward, including addressing the drivers of conflict. They emphasized establishing a national mechanism to oversee the implementation of the political process outcomes.
