Tripoli: Koury meets with the Ambassador of Qatar to Libya. UNSMIL and Qatar called on the Government of National Unity and Deterrence Apparatus for Combatting Organized Crime and Terrorism to come to an agreement on security arrangements, advance the UNSMIL-facilitated political roadmap, and restore the country’s stability.

According to Libyan News Agency, this call to action was made during a meeting held last Thursday by the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs in Libya, Stephanie Koury, with the Ambassador of Qatar to Libya, Khalid Al-Dosari. The discussions focused on the latest political and security developments in Libya.

UNSMIL stated in a report that both parties stressed the importance of accelerating consensus among Libyan security stakeholders on necessary arrangements to ensure security and create an appropriate political environment conducive to a comprehensive solution, as facilitated by the UN Mission.

Koury noted that these initiatives align with the
priorities outlined by Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, during her briefing to the Security Council on August 21, where she highlighted the need for progress in security and political domains.

The mission expressed gratitude to Qatar for its ongoing support of United Nations efforts in Libya and acknowledged Qatar’s role in advancing the political process through its diplomatic contributions.
