The Southern Military Zone Wednesday thwarted a group of people’s attempt to infiltrate borders and smuggle a “large” amount of weapons, ammunition and narcotic pills coming from the army’s western front. In a statement, an official military source in General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF)- Arab Army said rapid response patrols were deployed and rules of engagement were applied, which led to the smugglers’ retreat. After intensively searching the area, 127 pistols of different types, 248 cartridge holders, and 176 Captagon pills were found, and the confiscated items were transferred to the competent authorities. The source said the JAF will deal “firmly” with these attempts to protect Jordan’s borders and prevent any infiltration or smuggling operations and will keep vigilant to foil any endeavor to tamper with Jordan’s national security.
