Rome-Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani revealed the possibility of his country providing Italian police patrol boats to the Libyan Coast Guard to combat smugglers.

Tajani affirmed, in remarks carried by the Italian news agency Aki, that he discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of National Unity, Najla Al Mangoush, the strengthening of the agreement on the issue of illegal immigrants, saying: “We must work with Libya on migrants.”

Tajani stressed that Italy has always been ready to take in migrants, but must ensure the security of its borders, which are also the southern border of the European Union.
