The Iraqi Olympic team inaugurated its journey at the Paris Olympics by defeating Ukraine with two goals to one. The Ukrainian team was the first to score in the 53rd minute through player Valentin Rubchinsky, but Ayman Hussein quickly brought Iraq back into the match with a goal from a penalty kick in the 57th minute, and Ali Jassim followed with the winning goal in the 75th minute. Within the same second group, the Moroccan national team defeated its Argentine counterpart with the same result, so that the Iraqi and Moroccan national teams shared the top spot in their group with three points each.
