Iraq and Jordan sign the second amendment to the electricity sale contract

Iraq and Jordan signed today, Thursday, the second amendment to the electricity sale contract between the National Electric Power Company in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the General Company for Electricity Transmission/Central Region to supply the Rutba area with electricity at a voltage of 132 kV via the Jordanian electricity grid from the Risha area in Mafraq Governorate. The Director General of the Jordanian National Electric Power Company, Sufyan Al-Batayneh, said in a press statement after the signing that the second amendment comes to extend the term of the contract to supply loads with electricity in the Rutba area at a voltage of 132 kV. from the Jordanian grid with the aim of continuing the supply until the completion of the special work on the connection at a voltage of 400 kV after the supply period ended under the first amendment to the electricity sale contract on 27/9/2024, which was signed on 11/2/2024. Al-Batayneh stressed the importance of the Jordanian-Iraqi connection in strengthen ing the existing cooperation relations between the two countries, which contributes to the stability of electrical systems and serves the aspirations towards establishing a common Arab energy market. He said that the electrical connection projects with neighboring Arab countries are important within the national direction for the Kingdom to be a regional center for energy exchange. He explained that work is underway on the Jordanian-Iraqi electrical connection project at a voltage of 400 kV from the Risha conversion station in Jordan to the Qaim conversion station in Iraq, which is expected to be operational before mid-2025.
