Iraq and Armenia discuss strengthening economic relations

Baghdad, The Chargé d’Affaires of Iraq in Armenia, Suhailan Munther Al-Jubouri, met with the President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturian, today, Tuesday, on the occasion of the end of his diplomatic mission.

During the meeting, the two sides praised, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the achievements that have been made as a result of the effective cooperation between the Iraqi mission in Armenia on the one hand, and the Office of the Armenian President and the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the other hand, in recent years.

They expressed their deep appreciation for the joint efforts, pointing to the most prominent of these achievements, including the visit of President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid to Armenia in late 2023, and the visit of the Armenian President to Baghdad in early 2024.

They considered these two visits to be historic visits that contributed to opening a new page in bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Armenian President thanked
the Chargé d’Affaires for his role in the success of the two visits, and for his great contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation between Armenia and Iraq during his tenure in Yerevan, wishing him success in his upcoming tasks.

For his part, Al-Jubouri expressed his appreciation for the continuous support he received from the President personally and from his office during his tenure in the Republic of Armenia, which contributed to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation between Armenia and Iraq, by investing in positive factors in various economic fields, especially the geographical proximity between the two countries.

Al-Jubouri conveyed the Iraqi government’s welcome of the Armenian government’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine, noting that the Iraqi Foreign Ministry had issued a statement welcoming this important step.

The two sides also exchanged views during the meeting on international and regional politi
cal developments.
