Tripoli, US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs Joey Hood arrived in Tripoli on Tuesday for a visit, the first by a US official to Libya since the Government of National Unity took over.
Lana learnt that the US official will hold talks with the President of Presidency Council Mohamed Al Mnefi, the Head of the Government of National Unity Abdul Hamid Al Dbeiba and the Foreign Minister Najla Al Mangoush on bilateral relations and exchange between the two countries particularly in the areas of security and economy as well as re-opening of the US Embassy in Tripoli.
Hood was also expected to meet the President of the High National Election Commission Emad Al Sayeh and representatives of the civil society organisations and to hold a press conference with the Foreign Minister Najla Al Mangoush.
Sources suggested that Hood’s visit was particularly important, as it signals a growing attention the US Administration is giving to Libya in support for the Presidency Council and National Unity Government following the appointment of US Ambassador Richard Norland as a US Special Envoy to Libya.
