ICAO Lifts Aviation Safety Warnings on Libyan Airspace After a Decade

Tripoli:The Airports Authority, under the Ministry of Transport, has announced its approval of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)'s decision to lift the longstanding aviation safety warnings concerning Libyan airspace. These warnings, initially issued in 2013 and 2015, have been in place for over a decade.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Minister of Transport, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, described the decision as a significant national achievement that reinstates Libyan airspace on the international aviation map. This outcome is attributed to the government's efforts in collaboration with international organizations to enhance aviation safety and security standards, upgrade airport infrastructure, and modernize navigation systems.

The Minister also revealed plans to initiate a program aimed at promoting Libyan airspace to international airlines. The objective is to encourage these airlines to resume direct flights to Libya and leverage the air corridor that connects Europe with Africa.

Furthermore, the Airports Authority expressed optimism that this decision will lead to increased air transit traffic, enhance air transport activities, bolster revenues, and stimulate economic, tourism, and investment sectors. The Authority remains committed to working with international entities to remove the remaining restrictions on Libyan airlines, thereby supporting the civil aviation sector's development and restoring Libya's regional and international role in air transport.
