Tripoli: The Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Misbah Douma, has voiced his surprise and condemnation over what he termed as repeated statements from Greek officials, including the Speaker of the Greek Parliament, which he says are explicit calls for interference in Libyan internal affairs and a violation of national sovereignty.
According to Libyan News Agency, in a statement released by the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Speaker Douma emphasized Libya’s status as a fully sovereign state. He stated that Libya alone knows its supreme interests and how to protect them, rejecting any form of external interference or political imposition. Douma highlighted that agreements made by Libya are sovereign decisions guided by international laws and norms, and no external country has the authority to dictate Libyan actions regarding such agreements.
Douma further clarified that Libyan decisions are made by its legitimate institutions that represent the Libyan people and do not require guidance from other countries. He pointed out that international legal frameworks should be the reference for resolving disputes, particularly regarding maritime border demarcations, rather than through undiplomatic media statements.
In his statement, Douma called on Greece to respect Libyan sovereignty, exercise restraint, and cease any attempts to interfere in Libya’s internal affairs.
