HNEC Delegation Engages in Global Disability Summit in Berlin

Berlin: A delegation from the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) participated in the third Global Disability Summit held in Germany. The summit brought together more than 60 countries and hundreds of participants from governments, international organizations, and civil society.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Commission was represented at the summit by Majda Al-Kateb, Head of the Persons with Disabilities Support Unit at the General Administration; Bassem Abu Hamida, Head of the Persons with Disabilities Support Unit at the Electoral Administration Office in Tripoli; and Hassan Ashwiqi, Head of the Persons with Disabilities Support Unit at the Electoral Administration Office in Benghazi.

The Commission participated in three main sessions: the first addressed promoting inclusive democratic cultures through the leadership of persons with disabilities; the second focused on inclusive employment in the Arab region, with an emphasis on political challenges and recommendations for the employment of pe
rsons with disabilities. The third session addressed promoting disability-inclusive development by increasing the parliamentary participation of persons with disabilities.

The summit served as an important platform for discussing policies and practices that enhance the inclusion of persons with disabilities in various aspects of public life, including the electoral process.
