Tripoli, 13 December, 2022 (LANA) – Chairmen of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the National Security Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives condemn in the strongest terms the “Government of National Unity’s extradition of a Libyan citizen to the United States to claim his connection to the Lockerbie case, as this is a serious legal and human rights violation that affects the dignity of the Libyan citizen and the country’s sovereignty.”

In a joint statement, they affirmed that extradition is not legally permissible, given that there is no extradition agreement and no ruling issued in this regard with the United States, noting that respect for Libyan sovereignty requires that the accused be tried before the Libyan judiciary, according to the official spokesman for the House of Representatives, “Abdullah Blehaq.” via his official Facebook page.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Chairman of the National Security Committee called on the Attorney General to initiate an urgent investigation into the incident with officials suspected of involvement in this disgraceful incident, which is considered a flagrant violation of national sovereignty and an infringement of the rights of the Libyan citizen.

They stressed the House of Representatives’ refusal to reopen the Lockerbie case file, stressing that the case file has been completely closed politically and legally, according to the text of the agreement signed between the United States and Libya in 2003.
