According to Libyan News Agency, Orlando noted that the meeting with Haftar involved a constructive exchange on the political momentum in Libya. They explored how the EU could support efforts led by Hanna Tetteh to advance national elections and foster unity. The discussions also encompassed a wide range of mutual interests, focusing on strengthening cooperation across key sectors.
The meeting highlighted joint efforts to tackle irregular migration, combat cross-border smuggling, organized crime, and enhance counter-terrorism coordination. They also discussed support for training programs aimed at bolstering the capacity and effectiveness of the armed forces, ensuring these align with international standards and respect for human rights. Additionally, the role of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces (LAAF) in promoting security and stability and its contributions to Libya's reconstruction and development were underlined.
