GNU Minister of Interior Meets UN Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs.

Tripoli, GNU Minister of Interior Khalid Mazen met yesterday United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rose Cary de Carlo and the United Nations Special Envoy to Libya Jan Kupis.

During the meeting, they discussed preparations for and securing of the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for December 24.

The Minister explained that a visual presentation of the role and duties of the Ministry on the election file was presented to the Head of the Government and a number of ministers and members of the diplomatic corps, as well as establishment of a security room for elections.

He stressed that the Ministry of Interior deals with the issue of illegal immigration humanely and in accordance with the teachings of our religion and morals.

The Minister touched on the proposals of countries and dealing with international organizations in this regard, in addition to discussing the resumption of flights for migrants to return voluntarily to their countries, pointing to the possibility of developing a memorandum of understanding with the High Commissioner for Refugees to facilitate the procedures for asylum seekers.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Undersecretary Saeid Kondi, the Political Adviser to the UN Mission, Manoush Mathew, and directors of general departments for security operations.
