Gaza Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference calls for immediate ceasefire and end to Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories

Baghdad: The Gaza Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference called for establishing an immediate and permanent ceasefire that is fully respected, ending the ongoing operation in Rafah, and implementing the interim measures referred to by the International Court of Justice, with the unconditional release of all hostages and all civilians detained illegally, and demanding their safety and humane treatment in accordance with international law. In its closing statement, the conference called for ensuring full respect for international law and international humanitarian law, especially with regard to the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, United Nations humanitarian workers, and medical and media workers. Allow, facilitate and enable immediate, safe and unhindered access of humanitarian assistance in the required quantity and quality and on a large scale, to and throughout Gaza, through the most direct routes to the civilian population, including by lifting all barriers and restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and ensuring its safe and unhindered passage to the civilian population in need. It also called for ensuring the necessary conditions for the safe and dignified return of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, providing the necessary support and sustainable, transparent and long-term funding to enable UNRWA to carry out its duties in accordance with its UN mandate, and to continue its essential and vital activities and services to the Palestinian people in Gaza, and all areas of its operations, including through early recovery activities. Facilitating and supporting the establishment of a United Nations mechanism inside Gaza to expedite the delivery of humanitarian relief shipments with the aim of accelerating and simplifying the process of providing assistance, while continuing to help ensure that the assistance reaches its civilian destination in accordance with Security Council resolution 2720 (2023). It recommended intensifying diplomatic efforts to end the Israel i occupation of the occupied Palestinian territories, and launching a credible and irreversible path to implement the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent, geographically contiguous, viable and sovereign Palestinian state, in line with the agreed parameters and on the lines of June 4, 1967, living side by side with Israel in security and peace, on the basis of relevant United Nations resolutions, previous agreements and international law.
