Gharyan: The people of Gharyan and the surrounding areas gathered to hold a funeral for Brigadier General Mahmoud Jumaa Al-Qatawi, who died in a plane crash alongside the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, Field Marshal Mohammed Al-Haddad. The funeral prayers and a memorial service took place at the Gharyan Sports City this afternoon.
According to Libyan News Agency, a significant number of officers and soldiers from various units of the Libyan Army attended the event, joined by the mayor and members of the municipal council. The event was also attended by a large assembly of dignitaries, tribal leaders, and residents of Gharyan and nearby areas, reflecting the widespread grief and respect for the late brigadier general.
The memorial service commenced following the funeral prayers with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, which was succeeded by the national anthem. Speeches were delivered by representatives of the Military Industries Corporation, the mayor of Gharyan, the Gharyan Council of Elders and Notables, and the University of Gharyan. The Libyan Army's Inspector General also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significant loss to the nation.
