Paris, French Foreign Ministry considered on Friday that holding the elections in Libya next December, is necessary to get the country out of the political and security crisis that it has been going through for years.

“The holding of presidential and legislative elections is necessary for stability and political reconciliation in Libya, It is in line with the will of the Libyan people expressed by the Political Dialogue Forum and endorsed by the UN Security Council,” the ministry said in a news release carried by the French Press Agency.

The French Foreign Ministry added that preparing for elections by the High National Elections Commission was in progress, with the support of the international community,” and confirmed the candidates’ registration dates.

The Ministry stressed that “it is up to it to announce the next steps for holding the two polls and setting the timetable for the elections.”

The two elections were scheduled to be held simultaneously, but the House of Representatives decided at the beginning of October to separate them, though the presidential elections are still scheduled for December 24, and the legislative elections a month later.
