Four new deaths in the last week due to COVID-19, 21 more recorded for 2021

A total of 25 deaths due to COVID-19, four of which occurred in the last week and the remaining 21 since 2021, were announced by the Ministry of Health on Friday.

The four deaths, two men and two women aged between 73 to 81, were recorded during the week of 24 February – 2 March while the other 21 deaths, 13 men and 8 women, aged between 48-90, all died in 2021.

The deaths were not declared on time and were registered in the Causes of Death Record for the year 2021.

A total of 1,592 new cases were recorded after 52,818 tests were performed in the last week.

The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 rose to 1,330 and total cases detected since the beginning of the pandemic are 650,685 with the positivity rate reaching 3.01%.

The total number of molecular tests (PCR) performed in the last week were 1,414 and 136 positive cases were identified with a positivity rate of 9.62%.

The total number of rapid antigen tests conducted stood at 51,404 with 1,456 positive cases identified and a positivity rate of 2.83%.

On private initiative, 957 molecular tests were conducted and 58 positive cases were identified with a positivity rate of 6.06%. A total of 27,671 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 1,254 positive cases were identified (positivity rate 4.53%).

Through the Ministry of Health programmes, a total of 23,733 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 202 positive cases were identified.

At sampling points, 16,592 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 152 positive cases were identified with a positivity rate 0.92%.

In the Secondary Education sector, 159 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 2 positive cases were identified (positivity rate 1.26%).

At special schools 119 rapid antigen tests were performed with one positive case identified (positivity rate 0.84%).

At elderly care homes, a total of 4,714 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 41 positive cases were identified (positivity rate 0.87%).

In closed structures, 2,149 rapid antigen tests were conducted and six new cases were identified (positivity rate 0.28%).
