Foreign Minister chairs National Human Rights Committee meeting

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani chaired the National Human Rights Committee meeting.

He praised the efforts made by the members of the Committee in strengthening its work and performing the tasks assigned to it, in line with the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow up of the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The minister expressed his pride in the human rights achievements by Bahrain and emphasized the need to continue coordination between members of the Committee to consolidate the status of Bahrain in the field of protecting and promoting human rights on regional and international levels. In this regard, he highlighted that the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) of Bahrain’s final report of the fourth session was adopted last March by the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

During the meeting, the committee followed up of on human rights agreements, discussed the developments of the working group preparing Bahrain’s second periodic report submitted to the Arab Charter for Human Rights Committee and the human rights strategy.

The committee was briefed by Ambassador of Bahrain to the US Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa on the work done by the embassy efforts to highlight Bahrain’s efforts and achievements in the protection of human rights.
