FM Stresses The Importance Of The Participation Of Japanese Companies In The Reconstruction Of The Infrastructure Of Iraq

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, stressed the need for Japanese companies to participate in the reconstruction of infrastructure, and to provide Iraq with scientific expertise that contributes to the construction process.

The foreign ministry said in a statement: “The minister met today with Assistant Foreign Minister of Japan Kansuke Nagaoka, and they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance them to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.”

The minister appreciated Japan’s role in supporting Iraq’s efforts to confront terrorism and provide humanitarian aid, noting that these positions contribute effectively to strengthening bilateral relations, expressing Baghdad’s aspiration for a greater role for Tokyo in various fields, stressing the need for Japanese companies to participate in the reconstruction of infrastructure and supply Iraq with scientific expertise that contributes to the construction process.

The minister called for encouraging investment companies to expand economic activity, because of their great experience in this field, pointing to opening more prospects for joint cooperation, and increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two friendly countries.

The minister stressed the importance of the talks being held by the two sides to complete the signing of a number of agreements related to the oil industries and the fields of water management and purification.

The two sides also exchanged views on a number of current regional and international issues, including the negotiations conducted by the countries of the (5 + 1) group regarding the reinstatement of the Iranian nuclear agreement and views on developments in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and the two sides stressed the need to intensify negotiations to expedite an end for this dispute.

For his part, the Japanese Assistant Foreign Minister affirmed Japan’s keenness to exchange views on political issues of common interest, appreciating Iraq’s pioneering role, stressing Japan’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations between Iraq and Japan and activate aspects of cooperation in all political, economic and security fields.
