FM Abdelatty to Iranian counterpart: Egypt urges restraint to prevent tensions in ME from spiraling out of control

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty urged Saturday 3/8/2024 in a phone call with Iran's Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani that all parties must exercise calm and restraint to prevent current tensions in the Middle East from spiralling out of control. FM Abdelatty made his statements in a phone call to Bagheri as part of Egypt's ongoing communications with all concerned parties to contain the current escalation and reduce regional tensions, according to the Egyptian foreign ministry. The Egyptian foreign minister stressed to his Iranian counterpart that the recent unprecedented developments in the region are extremely dangerous and pose a significant threat to the stability of its countries and peoples. He reaffirmed in the phone discussion Cairo's call for an end to the war on Gaza as the primary cause of increased tension and conflict in the region. Abdelatty also reaffirmed to Bagheri Cairo's opposition to Israel's escalatory policies, assassinations, and violations of state sov ereignty. He added that Tel Aviv's actions do not benefit any party and would only exacerbate the crisis, making it more difficult to contain. For his part, the Acting Iranian Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation for Cairo's commitment to regional security and stability.
