Tripoli: The Head of the European Union Delegation to Libya, Nicola Orlando, affirmed that the European Union is the largest partner of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and its most consistent and supportive partner in Libya. According to Libyan News Agency, this statement was made in a tweet by Orlando following his meeting with the Director General of the IOM, Amy Pope, at the conclusion of her first important visit to the capital, Tripoli. Orlando explained that the meeting featured a constructive and open dialogue that addressed ways to enhance joint cooperation to support Libyan institutions across the country, with the aim of managing migration and border issues effectively and humanely. He noted that the discussion focused on a number of priorities, including supporting voluntary return programs, saving lives at sea and in the desert, dismantling smuggling networks, and expanding safe corridors.
