EU Delegation and Member States Welcome Libya’s Structured Dialogue Launch

Tripoli: The Delegation of the European Union and the Diplomatic Missions of EU Member States to Libya have expressed their support for the launch of the Structured Dialogue by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). This initiative marks a significant step in the political roadmap outlined by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, to the United Nations Security Council in August. According to Libyan News Agency, the delegation released a statement wishing the participants success in developing a unified vision to tackle the fundamental issues underlying Libya's ongoing conflict. The initiative aims to set the stage for credible presidential and legislative elections and to further the unification of state institutions, improve governance, and enhance accountability. The European Union has urged Libyan stakeholders from all regions to engage constructively and sincerely in the UN-facilitated political process. In particular, it emphasized the need to addre ss critical steps that remain, such as the reconstitution of the Board of the High National Elections Commission and necessary amendments to the electoral framework. The statement underscored the unwavering commitment of the EU Delegation and the Diplomatic Missions to advancing a stable, sovereign, and unified Libya. This support is framed within the context of a UN-facilitated, Libyan-led, and Libyan-owned political process.
