Tripoli: EU Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, has announced a detailed discussion in Tripoli with Admiral Reda Issa, Commander of the Libyan Coast Guard, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in maritime search and rescue operations and the fight against human smuggling.
According to Libyan News Agency, the exchange between Orlando and Issa revolved around reviewing the EU’s ongoing support for Libya’s initiatives aimed at saving lives at sea and tackling human smuggling. Orlando highlighted the importance of ensuring that all search and rescue operations are conducted in accordance with both Libyan and international legal standards. The discussions also explored strategies to boost operational effectiveness, accountability, and the humane management of migration.
