Tripoli: GNU Minister of Environment Ibrahim Al-Arabi met yesterday with a delegation from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by a team from the National Research Center for the Law of the Sea at Ankara University, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries in environmental and maritime areas.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting, which was also attended by the Head of the Environmental Police, Major General Mustafa Al-Qadim, and several ministry officials, focused on joint cooperation in marine environmental protection, the exchange of technical and legal expertise, and the development of mechanisms for joint action on regional environmental issues in the Mediterranean basin.
The minister emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific and legal partnerships to contribute to the protection of coastal and marine ecosystems and to enhance the capabilities of Libyan national personnel.
The Turkish side presented an overview of the activities of th
e Research Center and its scientific and training programs, affirming the center’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Libya in the areas of maritime law, scientific research, and specialized training.
According to the Ministry, both parties agreed to continue coordination between the relevant authorities in both countries, paving the way for the preparation of a formal memorandum of understanding within the established diplomatic frameworks, which will strengthen future areas of cooperation and serve mutual interests.
