El-Sonni and Tetteh Discuss Libya’s Political and Humanitarian Challenges

New York: Permanent Representative of Libya to the UN, Taher El-Sonni, held a meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UNSMIL, Hanna Tetteh, at the United Nations headquarters. This engagement took place just a day before Tetteh’s scheduled briefing to the Security Council, where she will present the findings from her recent meetings and consultations in Libya.

According to Libyan News Agency, El-Sonni expressed satisfaction with the discussions, emphasizing that the meeting was timely, occurring ahead of Tetteh’s Security Council briefing. He noted that the dialogue centered on the significant economic and humanitarian challenges facing Libya. El-Sonni highlighted the crucial role of the UN Envoy in the forthcoming period, particularly in bolstering Libyan leadership and ownership of a resolution to the ongoing crisis.

El-Sonni also underscored the necessity of supporting national initiatives aimed at concluding the transitional stages and progressing towards elections. Additionally, the meeting addressed regional developments and their implications for Libya and neighboring countries. El-Sonni emphasized the importance of pursuing stability and resolving the current crisis in Libya, noting the positive effects such stability would have on the broader region.
