Egyptian athlete Ahmed Elgendy sets Olympic record

Egyptian athlete Ahmed Elgendy achieved an Olympic record by amassing 1516 points in the Men's Modern Pentathlon, securing a spot in the event's final on Friday 9/8/2024. Elgendy, 24, surpassed British athlete Joseph Choong's record by 34 points, which Choong had set during the Tokyo 2020 Games. Starting the day with 245 points and securing second place in pool A, Elgendy later finished 17th in the Men's Modern Pentathlon riding show jumping semi-final with 267 points. Following a strong performance in the semi-final A of the swimming 200m freestyle, where he garnered 311 points, Elgendy's total score reached 823 points.
