Brussels: Egypt and the European Union have jointly reiterated their commitment to supporting United Nations efforts in Libya, focusing on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) roadmap. This initiative aims to foster peace, stability, national sovereignty, and unity within the North African nation.
According to Libyan News Agency, the joint statement was issued following a summit concluded in Brussels, tackling bilateral relations and pressing regional issues, particularly the ongoing Libyan crisis. The statement underscores the necessity for Libya’s political process to be both Libyan-led and Libyan-owned, advocating for the reunification of all state institutions and the organization of presidential and parliamentary elections within a specified timeline.
The Egyptian and European Union representatives also highlighted the urgency of unifying Libya’s armed and security forces and called for the withdrawal of all foreign troops, mercenaries, and fighters from Libyan soil. This initiative is part of a broader international effort to stabilize Libya, enhancing its sovereignty and promoting national unity.
