Toledo- The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union, in cooperation with the Toledo International Peace Center and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, organized a workshop on the role of international partners in helping Libya integrate and accommodate armed groups within state institutions in the Spanish city of Toledo.

The workshop was attended by Vice-President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, Minister of Interior of Government of National Unity Khaled Mazen, Minister of Labour Ali Al-Abed, Chief of General Staff Mohamed Al-Haddad, and members of the 5 + 5 Committee, with the participation of the Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya Stephanie Williams, and in the presence of number of ambassadors. The Media Office of the Presidential Council said that Al-Lafi stressed the importance of holding the workshop during this stage to achieve stability in Libya, and stressed that the programme of collecting weapons and integrating fighters in post-war countries is one of the most important peace-building programmes in them.

He praised the experience of the United Nations in this context for the success of the programme to collect weapons and integrate fighters, for which rules, systems and standards have been established to restore security in post-conflict countries.

He also stressed the need to create a kind of trust between the fighters and political leaders in their response to any efforts made within the framework of collecting weapons through the international system to achieve security and stability, in reference to the efforts of the Presidential Council that aim to build bridges of trust between the citizen and the state through the national reconciliation project, and its commitment to support Consensus between the political parties to achieve stability and durable peace
