Tripoli: Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah of the Government of National Unity has directed priority attention to areas facing water shortages by allocating necessary resources to the Great Man-Made River Project Authority and the General Water Company. This directive aims to address priority issues in water-scarce regions.
According to Libyan News Agency, Dbeibah issued these instructions during an extensive meeting held to evaluate the status of the Great Man-Made River Project Authority and the General Water and Sanitation Company. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of work and identifying the needs related to water provision and sanitation improvement across various regions.
Dbeibah underscored the importance of monitoring technical operations to ensure the system's stability and enhance the efficiency of services provided to citizens. Officials from the Great Man-Made River Project Authority discussed the technical and operational status of the system, the levels of water supply, and the condition of recharge wells in Jabal al-Hasawna, Tazerbo, Sarir, and Kufra. They also addressed the wells that are currently out of service or inoperable and outlined the technical steps required to restore them.
The General Water and Sanitation Company presented its operational status and outlined its needs for development projects. These projects are intended to strengthen its capacity to improve water and sanitation services and meet regional demands.
The meeting included key figures such as the Minister of State for Prime Minister and Cabinet Affairs, Mohamed Ben Ghalbon; the Director of the Inspection and Follow-up Department at the Cabinet Office, Khalifa Shaliq; the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Water and Sanitation Company, Rafiq Abulsin; the Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Great Man-Made River Project Authority, Ahmed Al-Deeb; and several committee members.
