Tripoli: Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah has tasked the newly appointed Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohamed Sidi Ibrahim, with the development of a comprehensive plan aimed at improving the ministry's performance. The plan is intended to enhance institutional efficiency, strengthen environmental oversight, improve waste management, and protect the coastline. These efforts are expected to raise the level of environmental services and preserve natural resources.
According to Libyan News Agency, this directive was issued during the first meeting held with Dr. Ibrahim following his appointment. The meeting, attended by the Secretary-General of the Cabinet Office, Adel Dhuwair, was part of the government's ongoing efforts to bolster environmental management, safeguard natural resources, and support sustainable development initiatives. Dbeibah highlighted the necessity for stricter controls on the distribution and use of agricultural pesticides, emphasizing their role in protecting public health and the environment.
Dbeibah also stressed the importance of a work plan that outlines clear priorities and implementation programs with specific timelines and monitoring mechanisms to ensure rapid execution and achieve desired outcomes. The media office noted that Dr. Ibrahim's appointment is grounded in his distinguished academic and professional career, which spans over three decades. He holds a master's degree in petroleum engineering from the United Kingdom and a bachelor's degree in earth sciences. His career includes several leadership and advisory roles in the oil and gas sector, along with expertise in institutional planning and project evaluation. Dr. Ibrahim has also contributed to the preparation of technical studies focused on natural resources and sustainable development in the southern regions.
