Tripoli: The head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, engaged in discussions with the European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, focusing on the latest developments in Libya’s political situation and the European Union’s role in bolstering stability and enhancing development trajectories in the country.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting was highlighted on the government’s Facebook page, indicating that it delved into the follow-up of outcomes from Al-Dabaiba’s earlier visit to the European Union headquarters in May. A variety of shared agendas were addressed, notably the migration issue, outcomes of the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum hosted by Tripoli in July, and strategies for enhanced cooperation in managing migrant flows. The dialogue also included discussions on the European Union’s support for Libya’s efforts in this domain.

During the meeting, Dabaiba emphasized the necessity of taking concrete steps towards lifting the ban on Libyan flights in Europe
an airspace. He signaled Libya’s readiness to collaborate with European authorities to fulfill the essential criteria for resuming direct flights, which would enhance Libya-Europe connectivity.

Furthermore, the meeting explored avenues for joint cooperation in boosting renewable energy utilization in Libya. This forms part of the government’s strategy to transition towards a sustainable economy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. In discussions on alternative energy, the Prime Minister underscored the significance of EU support for energy projects in Libya. He highlighted the exchange of European expertise and experience in this sector as pivotal in achieving sustainable development and creating new job opportunities for Libyan youth.
