Benghazi:Investigations conducted by the Greater Benghazi Security Operations Branch have led to the arrest of two individuals suspected of forging bank deposit slips. These suspects allegedly used the falsified documents to defraud merchants by falsely representing that funds were deposited into their bank accounts in exchange for goods or cash.
According to Libyan News Agency, the arrests came after a merchant filed a complaint, raising suspicions about one of the individuals. This prompted investigation and surveillance procedures under the supervision of the Branch Director, Colonel Mahmoud Buhairi. A security ambush was arranged, resulting in the arrest of the first suspect, who holds Palestinian nationality.
The investigation records revealed that the first suspect disclosed his collaboration with another individual of Sudanese nationality. Further security investigations led to the arrest of this second suspect, who admitted to forging bank deposit slips using mobile phone applications to manipulate amounts and deposit dates on the documents.
Both suspects have completed the investigation procedures and have been referred to the competent Public Prosecution for further legal proceedings. The case falls under the territorial jurisdiction of Ras Ubaida.
In light of these events, First Lieutenant Ahmed Al-Maslati, Director of the Media and Communications Office at the General Administration of Security Operations, cautioned merchants and citizens to be vigilant when conducting financial transactions through banking applications. He advised against relying solely on images of bank deposit slips or receipts circulated via mobile phones and emphasized verifying transactions through banks' official channels. Additionally, he urged the public to report any suspicious activities or attempts of fraud to help protect money and property and combat financial crimes.
