Criminal Investigation Department Nabs Social Media Blackmailer

Tripoli: The Central Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department has successfully apprehended an individual accused of blackmailing multiple citizens through social media platforms.

According to Libyan News Agency, the department revealed on Monday that the suspect had been threatening to expose private information of citizens on platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp unless they complied with his demands for payment. The accused also confessed to having accomplices residing outside the country who employed fake accounts and international numbers to mask their identities.

The department confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspect, and the case has been forwarded to the appropriate prosecution authorities.
