Tripoli: Minister of Water Resources Husni Oweidan chaired the first meeting of the committee monitoring the rising water levels in Zliten Municipality. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Water Resources in Tripoli, highlighted the Prime Minister's Office's commitment to finding solutions to the challenges posed by increasing water levels, which have significant health, environmental, and social impacts. The minister emphasized the importance of municipalities, considering them as the state's foundational entities.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting featured presentations from members of Zliten Municipality and the Ministry of Water Resources, focusing on technical recommendations and solutions for reducing water levels. The discussions explored the possibility of utilizing water from reduction operations by converting it into desalinated and sterilized water, ensuring compliance with established technical and health standards.
The committee was formed under Resolution No. (80) of 2026, which follows Cabinet Resolution No. (506) of 2026. These resolutions pertain to hydrological studies aimed at monitoring and addressing the rising water levels in Zliten Municipality.
