Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in Cyprus, according to data presented on Thursday during a press conference organised by the Cyprus Society of Gastroenterology and the Medochemie pharmaceutical company. Based on the data, in Cyprus colon cancer is the third most common cancer, in men and women, with 350 new cases each year. The Cyprus Society of Gastroenterology, in cooperation with Medochemie and the Cyprus Medical Association, begin actions to inform the public about this type of cancer in the framework of the European Colon Cancer Awareness Month. President of the Cyprus Society of Gastroenterology Dr Andreas Eugeniou, stressed the importance of prevention and early diagnosis saying that this can prevent cancer by finding and removing polyps adding that if diagnosed at an early stage, the complete recovery rates are very high namely 6 out of 10 cases. He said that the Cyprus Society of Gastroenterology is contributing to the establishment of a preventive program for the population for regular screening of asymptomatic individuals.
