Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said yesterday, Tuesday, that reaching a consensual and comprehensive legislative framework for elections in Libya, under the auspices of the United Nations, is the only solution towards lasting peace.

Bourita considered, in his intervention during the ministerial meeting of the African Peace and Security Council, which was held through video conference technology, on national reconciliation in Libya, that holding elections as soon as possible is the guarantor of the formation of a legitimate, elected government.

The Moroccan Minister of Diplomacy, during his intervention delivered on his behalf by the Director of the Mashreq, Gulf and Arab and Islamic Organizations in the ministry, Fouad Akhraif, expressed his hope that the national reconciliation conference that the African Union and the Presidential Council intend to hold in Tripoli would be an opportunity to enhance consensus between the Libyan parties, reiterating his country’s support for the efforts made by the Presidential Council and the President of the Republic of the Congo in this regard.

In his speech on national reconciliation in Libya, Bourita stressed that Morocco’s position on the Libyan issue remains firm and clear. Morocco considers Libya an essential partner in building the Maghreb Union and realizing the aspirations of the Maghreb peoples for integration and development.
