At least four policemen were killed in a blast targeting a police vehicle in Pakistan’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province on Thursday, said officials.

A spokesperson for police, Shahid Hameed told media that the blast occurred as the personnel were en route to a police station of Lakki Marwat district, where policemen were fending off an attack under way.

The improvised explosive device (IED) went off on the Pirwala Road killing a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and three constables.

Earlier in the day, militants opened fire on the Saddar area police station in the district injuring six policemen. “The police were on alert and the attackers had to flee when the police returned fire.” The injured were shifted to the nearest government run medical facility. The banned outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
