The Head of the UN Mission in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, stressed the need for Libya to heal the wounds of the past and move forward toward a peaceful future where all Libyans equitably benefit from the country’s abundant resources.

This came during his meeting yesterday with notables and activists from the southern region, He listened to their expectations around the national reconciliation process, and their aspirations for inclusive, free elections in which all Libyan people can choose their leaders.

“I reiterated UNSMIL’s continued support for an inclusive national reconciliation process,” Bathily said in a tweet.

He also met yesterday with ambassadors and representatives of African countries accredited in Tripoli to brief them on the activities of UNSMIL.

The meeting dealt with the political and security challenges facing the country and the region, the importance of strengthening coordination among regional actors to foster security, and support for Libyan actors to achieve free, peaceful, and inclusive elections.
