Tripoli: Minister of Sports in the Government of National Unity, Fouad Barghash, held a meeting at the ministry's headquarters with Haider Aghanin, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Libya, to explore ways to strengthen cooperation and expand partnership in the sports sector between Libya and Russia.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting focused on enhancing the mutual exchange of sports expertise and capabilities. Barghash emphasized the Ministry's dedication to fostering sports cooperation with Russia, aiming to expand coordination and exchange efforts that benefit the sports sector and improve national skills.
The Russian ambassador acknowledged the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He expressed a keen interest in extending these relations to encompass the sports field, proposing the establishment of practical cooperation avenues and sharing expertise between Libyan and Russian sports institutions.
Discussions during the meeting highlighted several proposed cooperation areas, including organizing specialized courses and training programs in administrative, technical, and refereeing fields. Both parties considered utilizing Russian facilities to host Libyan teams for training camps, which would aid in improving preparation programs and readiness levels.
The dialogue also considered establishing a formal framework for sports cooperation, aiming to draft and sign agreements and memoranda of understanding. These efforts intend to lay the groundwork for a sustainable sports partnership that will benefit Libya's sports sector in the long term.
