The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: ‘The Bahraini Foreign Minister, Abdul Latif Al-Zayani, met yesterday evening, Sunday evening, with his (acting) Iranian counterpart, Ali Bagheri Kani, and they held a bilateral meeting in Tehran.’

It added: “The two parties agreed, in this meeting, to establish the necessary mechanisms in order to begin talks between the two countries to study how to resume political relations between them.”

The King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, announced during his meeting with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, in Moscow, last May, his country’s support for normalization with Iran, indicating the disappearance of problems between the two sides.

The Bahraini king said: ‘We had problems with Iran, but now there are no problems at all. There is no reason to postpone the normalization of relations with Iran.’

On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman
Nasser Kanaani said during the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s weekly press conference that Iran will take into account the statements of the King of Bahrain.
