Attorney General: all resources mobilized to deliver justice to victims of the armed group in Tarhuna.

Tripoli, Attorney General Al Siddiq Al Sour confirmed that all resources have been mobilized to deliver justice to victims of crimes witnessed by the city of Tarhuna, in accordance with a methodology of work entrusted to a number of well-known and efficient prosecutors.

This came at a meeting the Attorney General held in the last two days with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Directorates Affairs, the Director of Security Directorate of the city of Tarhuna, and the President of the Tarhuna Municipal Council, which focused on the search for murders, extrajudicial arrests, kidnapping and torture, personal abuse and desecration of houses, perpetrated by members of the armed group that controlled the city of Tarhuna over the past years. Stages and results of the preliminary investigation procedures were reviewed during this meeting, including the procedures for locating mass graves and exhuming the bodies and remains of the victims.

Attorney General Al Siddiq Al Sour confirmed during the meeting that the public prosecution took direct action to investigate violations attributed to the leaders and elements of the armed group tagged “Kanyyat” since 2017, and a number of precautionary measures to confront them, including in particular issuing arrest warrants against leaders of the group and their followers on 13/11/2017.

Al Sour confirmed that he gave, and will continue to give due attention to the case, due to the seriousness of the violations documented in the investigations carried out by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, explaining that the Office of the Attorney General had mobilized all the resources available, to deliver justice to the victims, and has developed a methodology of work entrusted with a number of well-known and efficient prosecutors.

The Attorney General stressed the need to upgrade performance of law-enforcement officers related to violations, by putting in place a framework that includes elements belonging to all security agencies for the purpose of completing the work of inference, pointing out that strengthening accountability of the perpetrators and documenting the truth and reparation, require involvement of the families of the victims in the procedures and support of the conduct of DNA analysis of samples taken from the victims to be matched with samples taken from the relatives at internationally recognized labs, and collect results as soon as possible.
