Baghdad: The 34th Arab Summit, which concluded in Baghdad, has urged the Libyan House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State to swiftly agree on electoral laws. These laws are essential to fulfill the Libyan people’s demand for simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections, marking an end to prolonged transitional periods.
According to Libyan News Agency, the summit’s final statement emphasized full support for Libya, highlighting the need for a national dialogue to resolve the ongoing crisis. This dialogue aims to maintain the unity of the state and achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people for lasting stability.
The statement firmly rejected any interference in Libya’s internal affairs and expressed unwavering support for the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. It also called for the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory within a specified timeframe.
Furthermore, the statement encouraged all Libyan parties to persist in the political process and work towards national reconciliation, ensuring the preservation of Libya’s supreme interests and fulfilling the people’s aspirations for peace, stability, and prosperity.
The Arab Summit also praised the efforts of Libya’s neighboring countries, the Arab League, the United Nations, and the African Union. These entities have been instrumental in facilitating dialogue among Libyan parties, aiming to ensure national unity and achieve a political settlement to the crisis.
