Tripoli: Chairman of the High National Elections Commission, Imad Al-Sayeh, engaged in a discussion with Tamer Al-Hafni, the Egyptian Ambassador to Libya, on Wednesday. The meeting, held at the Commission’s headquarters in Tripoli, focused on exploring avenues to bolster the electoral process in Libya and assessing the Commission’s preparedness for the upcoming municipal council elections.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Egyptian Ambassador commended the Commission’s efforts in gearing up for the 2024 municipal council elections. The Commission has earmarked Saturday, November 16, as the voting date for the first group of municipal council elections.
The Commission’s statistics reveal that 210,545 voters have registered for the first phase of the municipal council elections. In September, the National Elections Commission unveiled the framework for the municipal council election system, noting that municipalities with populations of 25,000 or less will comprise seven members.
These municipalities will
allocate seats as follows: five seats based on a list system (including three general seats, one seat for women, and one for people with disabilities), along with two individual seats.
