Addis ababa: The President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, participated today in the opening of the 39th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. The event saw a large gathering of African heads of state and government.
According to Libyan News Agency, the opening ceremony was attended by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, the host country, along with African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and several other African leaders.
The summit's agenda includes discussions on hotspots of tension in the Sahel region, the Horn of Africa, and parts of Central Africa. These regions are experiencing continued threats from terrorist groups and escalating internal conflicts.
The two-day summit will also address the reform of operational mechanisms within the Union's bodies. The aim is to enhance effectiveness, reduce bureaucracy, and accelerate the response to crises.
