Al-Menfi Meets Arab League Secretary-General in New York

New York:President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, met with Nabil Fahmy, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, on Tuesday at the Libyan Mission's headquarters. According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting commenced with Al-Menfi congratulating Fahmy on his new position as Secretary-General. The discussion focused on developments in the Arab region and Libya, and explored ways to enhance joint Arab efforts in tackling current challenges. The two leaders deliberated on strategies for achieving a political resolution to the Libyan crisis. They emphasized the importance of ensuring the process is driven by Libyan ownership, consensus, and dialogue, free from external interference. The aim is to establish a favorable environment for concluding transitional phases and conducting free, fair, and simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections under an agreed constitutional and legal framework. Al-Menfi highlighted the significant role of the Arab League in fostering stability in Libya. He underscored the League's support in reconciling Libyan perspectives and strengthening national consensus to maintain Libya's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He also emphasized the necessity of improving the effectiveness of joint Arab action to address regional crises and challenges. This includes efforts to consolidate security, promote development, and protect shared Arab interests.
