Tripoli: President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, engaged in a crucial discussion on the political, economic, and security landscape of Libya with Nicola Orlando, the European Union Ambassador to Libya, at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli. The meeting highlighted the ongoing challenges and strategic plans necessary for the country’s progress.
According to Libyan News Agency, the talks centered around the role of the Presidential Council in collaboration with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to bridge the political divide and facilitate the electoral process. Additionally, discussions addressed economic hurdles, including unchecked spending, and emphasized the necessity of enhancing oversight and implementing transparency and accountability measures.
The Ambassador affirmed the European Union’s dedication to aiding Libya in consolidating its military framework and tackling illegal immigration. He commended President Menfi for his leadership in managing crises and efforts to unify the national front.
Menfi reiterated the importance of continued collaboration with European partners, prioritizing the protection of human rights, and adhering to Security Council recommendations to dismantle human trafficking networks and hold accountable those responsible for human rights violations.
