Al-Menfi and German Envoy Discuss Steps Toward Libya’s Political Stability

Tripoli: President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, engaged in discussions regarding Libya’s political, economic, and security landscape with the German Envoy to Libya, Christian Bock, and the German Ambassador, Ralph Tarraf. These discussions took place during a meeting held at the Council’s headquarters, as part of the continuous consultations between Libya and Germany aimed at enhancing political settlement efforts in the nation.

According to Libyan News Agency, President Menfi reiterated his political initiative, which he had presented at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. This initiative is structured around four main pillars designed to address the current challenges facing Libya’s political process. The discussion emphasized the need for comprehensive national consensus to facilitate upcoming elections, ensuring the inclusiveness and legitimacy of the political process.

The German Envoy, Christian Bock, praised President Menfi’s efforts toward achieving a comprehensive and sustainable settlement. He expressed Germany’s full support for Libya’s political solution process and commitment to the successful outcomes of the Berlin Dialogue. Bock highlighted the importance of creating suitable conditions for transparent and fair elections to build a stable, democratic state inclusive of all Libyans.

The initiative by the President of the Presidential Council focuses on restoring national sovereign decision-making, engaging in an inclusive national dialogue, unifying state institutions, and concluding the transitional phase through a constitutional framework. Menfi stressed the importance of a consensus that leads to free elections, reflecting the will of the Libyan people, ensuring national ownership, and avoiding the repetition of negative past experiences.
