The President of the Supreme Council of State, “Khaled Al-Mashri,” confirmed yesterday, Monday, his readiness to meet with the Speaker of Parliament, Aguila Saleh, at the invitation of the United Nations, to discuss the “suspending points” in the file of the constitutional track regulating the general elections.

Al-Mashri said in a letter addressed to the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams, that he is “fully prepared to meet with Counselor Aguila Saleh, Speaker of the House of Representatives, to discuss the outstanding points in the constitutional path and seek to resolve them, and refer them to the two Houses to have the final word on them.”

“We hope that the meeting will take place inside Libya, and we suggest the city of Ghadames, because it is far from political polarization,” he added in the statement, which was published by the media office of the Supreme Council of State on its Facebook page.

It is noteworthy that the third and final round of negotiations of the joint committee of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State related to the constitutional process, concluded yesterday in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, but “differences remained regarding the measures organizing the transitional phase leading to the elections,” according to the UN mission in Libya.
