Tripoli: Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, engaged in a meeting with Gian Luca Alberini, the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Libya, in Tripoli on Thursday. The meeting was described as fruitful, focusing on strengthening the robust bilateral relations between Libya and Italy and discussing the latest political and security developments within Libya.

According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Lafi emphasized in a tweet after the meeting the significance of supporting the political process led by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). He identified it as the optimal approach to overcoming the current political deadlock and achieving a comprehensive settlement that would lead to elections and bring stability to the region.

The discussion also covered the issue of illegal immigration, stressing the importance of reinforcing bilateral cooperation to establish effective mechanisms. These mechanisms aim to combat illegal immigration through integrated plans designed to protect borders and dismantle smuggling networks.

Al-Lafi noted that ongoing coordination with the Italian side is part of the strategic partnership between the two nations. This partnership serves the interests of both friendly peoples and contributes to enhancing security and stability in Libya and the broader region.
